PX Hidden Bar in Alexandria VA

PX is a hidden bar located around the corner from its address 728 King Street in Alexandria, Virginia.  It is marked by a blue light and pirate flag.   When the blue light is on, it means the bar is open for its artisan cocktails.

A cool and relaxing speakeasy that takes you back to the 1920’s.  With many creative cocktails and flavorful drinks, this bar has quickly become one of my favorites in the DC area.  It has a limited menu of only nuts, olives or chicken/fish and chips.

The ambiance is romantic in that you are led up a candlelit stairway to a dark bar lit up by chandeliers and candles.  PX only has room for 25 patrons so book early online.  We went out with the office for a quiet drink after work one evening and on another occasion to celebrate my nieces recent engagement.  It is truly a beautiful and unique cocktail experience.

Tout De Sweet – Bethesda Coffee and Pastry Shop

tout de sweet sign

This is my first blog so I want to write about my favorite french bakery/coffee shop located in Bethesda, Maryland.   I was so excited when our offices moved right up the street from this very special cafe.  Tout de Sweet opened about 2 years ago and has quickly established itself as one of the finest bakeries in the DC Metropolitan area.   From their french macarons, to their amazing desserts, cupcakes, croissants and muffins, you feel like you are back in Paris.  If you have never been to France, then you can come to this beautiful little bakery in April and feel what it is like to sit outdoors in Paris while eating a french confections with your cappuccino, latte or tea. I have been frequenting Tout de Sweet since they opened and still can not figure out the best Sweet on their menu. The menu changes depending on what’s in season, so there are always some surprises.

Dave King for a Day

In France on the Eve of Epiphany which fell on the 6th of January (12 days after Christmas), people eat the Galette de Rois “king’s cake” a puff pastry with almond cream, which usually has a porcelain figurine of a king hidden inside.  The person who gets the piece of cake with the trinket inside becomes “king” for a day.  I brought a King’s Cake to our office this past week andDave Groberg, one of our agents, was the lucky winner.  Everyone in our office had to be really nice to Dave that day.

If you are ever in Bethesda, you don’t want to miss a visit to Tout de Sweet. Come by the Buyer’s Edge and we can go together for sweets and coffee.
